Films to see this month

This year is already shaping up to be a year filled with incredible film releases and with the industry launching some of 2017’s biggest summer blockbusters this month, more than one trip to the cinema will be required. For the month of May there’s a huge range of genres to choose from when you’re picking out your next must-watch film, you won’t be disappointed.

Looking for some film inspiration to help you choose your next film? Here are the top five films that I’ll be making sure I watch over the next few weeks.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Following a massively successful first film, the quirky and fun characters of Guardians of the Galaxy are back with the second instalment and promises to deliver on everything that made the initial film a fan favourite. With a stellar cast, action packed scenes, laugh out loud moments, and, of course, another incredible soundtrack, Volume 2 is set to live up to all its expectations. It’s a must-watch for fans of the Marvel franchise but even those who are yet to join the trend will enjoy this film.

The Lovers
I love films that show real life emotions and twists and that’s just what The Lovers does. Following a married couple that are considering a divorce but unexpectedly find themselves falling in love again, this film gives a different view on the themes of romance that are often played out on the screen, giving a unique perspective. Debra Winger and Tracey Letts are perfect for the roles of the dispassionate couple and you’ll be rooting for them as you watch their story unfold.

3 Generations
A truly inspiring story that tackles some of the biggest issues today, 3 Generations is a tale of family and becoming who you were meant to be. Three generations living under one roof is never simple but when teenager Ray decides to transition from female to male, it’s a decision that affects not only him but his mother and grandmother too. Exploring the challenges and difficulties the three family members face beautifully; 3 Generations should definitely be one your list to watch this month.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
King Arthur might be a story that’s been retold countless times but this latest adaption promises to take you on a fantastic adventure. Robbed of his birth right and ignorant to his royal lineage, a young Arthur pulls the fabled Excalibur from the stone and is immediately confronted with a decision. You’ll be drawn into a world of magic, knights, and beasts as soon as you sit down to watch King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and be left wanting more once the credits roll up too.

Alien: Covenant
I’m a huge fan of the Alien series so a list of the top films to watch this month wouldn’t be complete without this addition. Following on from 2012’s Prometheus, Covenant brilliantly combines science fiction and horror as the crew of a spaceship explore unchartered and terrifying territory. Anyone who’s a fan of the previous Ridley Scott films will already have this on their radar but it’s well worth a watch for those new to the franchise too.
